Why St. Theresa?

ACADEMICS – Excellence for Every Child

In Early Childhood, St. Theresa partners with the Lynch Foundation to deliver a research-based, high-quality program that supports each child’s life-long growth:

  • Play-based learning that fosters a love of learning
  • A strong foundation in language and social-emotional development
  • Beautifully designed classrooms that spark curiosity
  • Ongoing professional development and coaching for teachers
  • An Early Childhood Initiative backed by Peter and Carolyn Lynch, investing financially and philosophically in Catholic Early Childhood Education

From Kindergarten through Grade 8, our experienced faculty and talented new teachers deliver a rigorous academic program that blends high expectations with genuine support:

  • Small class sizes and individualized attention
  • Subject-specialized teaching in Middle School (STEM lab, ELA, Social Studies, Science)
  • Individualized learning support — tutoring, intervention teacher, and adaptive tools like IXL
  • Proven academic growth through MAP testing

We teach not only knowledge but also method, structure, and independence — the keys to lifelong success and critical thinking.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT – Nurturing the Whole Child

Education at St. Theresa extends beyond academics. Children develop different skills that give them a more comprehensive interaction with our world. Faith is woven into daily life. At every age, children learn that they are loved, valued, and capable of great things.

  • Music, Art, Gym, Spanish, and SEL as part of daily learning, taught by dedicated educators
  • Music Program: In partnership with Paul Effman Music Studios, each child has the opportunity to discover and play an instrument such as the flute, violin, trumpet, clarinet, and more.
  • Faith Formation: Through Welcome to the Mass—a program designed specifically for preschoolers—as well as student participation in school and parish celebrations, and sacramental preparation in our beautiful church, students are encouraged to develop a sincere and trusting faith in Jesus Christ
  • School Garden: a living outdoor classroom for exploration and environmental stewardship
  • Monthly Services: with one theme different each month and adapted to each grade, our students discover the joy of giving and caring for others
  • Taking action! From organizing our signature Boo Bash (haunted house) to helping younger students through daily reading, our middle school students have many opportunities to rise to new challenges and responsibilities!

We support family life by making daily routine easy, in a safe and caring environment where children can grow, discover new interests, and build lasting friendships.

  • Before & After School Programs with engaging and affordable activities [adding a link toward dedicated page]
  • Wide range of enrichment clubs (soccer, basketball, crafts, math challenges, photography…)
  • Financial Aid: We are delighted to support everyone’s access to our activities. Learn More
We teach not only knowledge but also method, structure, and independence — the keys to lifelong success and critical thinking.

COMMUNITY – Rooted in Family Spirit and Diversity

Saint Theresa is more than a school; it’s a family!

  • One class per grade, fostering close bonds and a family atmosphere
  • Foster Grandparent Program: Grandparents mentoring young learners in classrooms
  • Family involvement through amazing events like Boo Bash & Coffee with the Principal

Rooted in Somerville for nearly a century, we are proud of our diverse and welcoming community:

  • City Connects: a Boston College program supporting students’ social well-being in and beyond school
  • Over a dozen languages and cultures come together
  • Families or teachers belonging to Somerville for generations
  • Strong financial aid options thanks to generous donors like the Catholic Schools Foundation. Cost should never be a reason to prevent a child from attending our school!

The unique patronage of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus

  • A modern and inspiring saint from France
  • A perfect mentor for children: granted Doctor of the Church for her understanding of God’s love, which is lived in small, ordinary acts done with great love
There are many ways to get involved and be welcomed at St Theresa!
