20 Years Teaching Experience
Ms. Correia came to teaching in a roundabout way. She started out after college in office management and worked in the field for 10 years. She had to take a leave of absence when one of her 3 children was injured and needed her at home. During this time the principal of St. Catherine’s, Mrs. Dempsey, asked her to substitute teach on the days she was available. This made her realize she was in the wrong profession and teaching was something she loved to do. After returning to school to obtain the credentials to teach, she was offered the Kindergarten 1 position here at the school. She has been happily teaching for the last 20 years. When not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her adult children and her 6 grandchildren.
In our 2021 parent survey, one parent commented that she appreciated: "The fact that Ms. Correia has helped my son in seeing the school as a safe space that he could not only have fun in but learn and still be eager to wake up every morning to go to."
Her favorite novel is 11/22/63 by New England's own, Stephen King.
The memory that stays with Ms. Correia from kindergarten is of her teacher, Ms. Cuff. After realizing she could read, Ms. Cuff introduced her to early-reader books and then would sit and talk with her about what she liked about each story. This was most definitely the start of her own love of reading. Now, Ms. Correia can share that joy with her students!
