Miss Emily Jones will be teaching third grade for her first year at St. Theresa's. She graduated from Hillsdale College, a classical liberal arts school in southern Michigan, with a major in History. While in college, she participated in the Catholic Society, Club Tennis Team, and Chamber Choir. She would love to cultivate her skills and knowledge from these experiences in her work at St. Theresa's this upcoming school year!
Miss Jones has always been an avid reader, and her favorite series in school was The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner. She has since grown to love books such as Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
Emily's most inspiring teacher was her high school English teacher, Mrs. Sydney Dippel. Mrs. Dippel was a lover of books, exercise, and, above all, God. Miss Jones learned the importance of conviction from Mrs. Dippel, which is something she implements in her daily life both in and out of the classroom.
Despite not having majored in education during her undergraduate years, Emily has had the opportunity to participate in an array of training courses and seminars in preparation for her career in teaching. With focus on classroom management, growth mindset in learning, and fundamentals on curriculum, she has found great delight in the preparation. She continues to train with online courses specializing in success in the classroom. In regard to the implementation of EL Curriculum, her instruction has been tailored to effectively teach this curriculum in a way that is both exciting and engaging for her students!
